My name is Crystal. I am 49 years old. I have four children and five grand children. I and my children are all from New Jersey. Just four years ago I met my soul mate, Wayne, through the internet. I came out to Colorado, met him and fell in love. While back in Jersey, after a routine visit and additional blood work, I was told I have Hepatitis C Geno type 1.
Later at home with my kids and hours on the internet, it soon became clear when I contracted this nasty virus. In the mid nineties I worked as an assistant in surgical office procedures. Cleaning up one day I accidentally stuck myself ! Feeling stupid, I told only one person. Shortly thereafter I quit, thinking my family was more important than the risk. At that time I was naive. I feared only HIV. I was tested twice for that over the next ten years at my own request. I never dreamed twelve years later that moment would come back to haunt me with such a vengeance.
Knowing this, my love Wayne still asked me to move to Colorado with him. With my childrens blessings, I did. I have been here three years now. I have had some odd jobs, but nothing steady that offered health benefits. April 2009 I signed up for MCPN (limited health care on a sliding pay scale). It has been a long road to get this far, but here I am. I was recently cleared for treatment and was asked to join a research study, using Pegasys. This being a very expensive treatment(free through the study) I agreed.
